London Metal Exchange (LME) nickel futures strengthened to settle at US$15,714 per ton yesterday (October 5), up by US$88, while spot prices rose by US$86 to US$15,524 per ton. Daily trading fluctuated between US$15,540 and US$15,750.
Meanwhile, LME-monitored inventory decreased by 198 tons to 284,970 tons. Positive manufacturing data from China, the US, and the Eurozone contributed to the upward price movement despite a strong US dollar.
However, market participants said that high inventory levels will constrain further nickel price gains, though expectations for post-holiday Chinese demand support short-term stability.
